A super-speed suit turns a day of discovery into a race around the world to help save the Earth.
Imagine yourself waking up one bright summer morning. The sun’s rays warm your face through the window. You stretch and yawn, feeling the usual excitement for the day ahead.
But then something strange happens. You feel a slight tremble, almost like a tiny earthquake. You sit up in bed and listen closely. You hear voices coming from the television room. Curious, you pop out of bed and make your way towards the television. Someone’s left it on, playing the news.
“This just in. Scientists have detected a major slowdown of the Earth’s rotation,” the reporter says. “This could have serious consequences for our planet if it isn’t resolved soon.”
Your heart skips a beat. The Earth slowing down? That can’t be good. Feeling a little uneasy, you decide to head outside for some fresh air. The day is warm and bright, and there’s an odd stillness, as if the world is holding its breath. You try to go about your usual morning routine, but you can’t shake the feeling that something big is about to happen.
As you walk around the yard, something catches your eye. You turn to look, and there it is: the costume tree. You hadn’t seen it just moments ago, but now it’s just standing right in front of you. As you look around from side to side, it seems that your house has entirely disappeared, and you find yourself surrounded by forest, standing directly in front of the costume tree.
You approach the tree, and you open the door. When you step through the doorway, you find yourself in a room much larger than you would have thought possible. The walls are lined with branches, each one holding a different costume. Pirates, astronauts, fairies, superheroes, and more, all waiting to be chosen.
But one costume stands out from the rest. It’s under a spotlight, as if something or someone is telling you to choose it. The costume is sleek and futuristic, with a design that suggests speed and agility. You step closer and reach out to touch it. The fabric’s light and smooth, and as you lift it off the branch, you feel it humming with a strange energy.
You begin to put on the costume. You pull it over your head, and you feel your body start to change. Your senses heighten, and a rush of energy fills you. You look down at your hands, and you see that they’re covered in material that looks like a second skin, but built for speed. You can feel the power in your muscles, ready to be unleashed.

You take an easy step forward, but it’s like a giant leap. Each movement feels effortless, and your thoughts come quickly and clearly. You step outside the tree, and you decide to test your new abilities.
You start to run, slowly at first, but then you pick up speed. Faster and faster you go, until the world around you blurs. It feels like everything’s slowed down, but you know it’s just you moving incredibly fast.
You race through a huge forest, the trees whipping past you in a blur of green and brown. The ground beneath your feet feels soft and springy, and you leap over fallen logs and streams with ease. You can hear the sound of the forest all around you: the chirping of the birds, the rustling of the leaves, the babbling of brooks.
As you exit the forest, you find yourself running through vast fields, the grass a green blur beneath you. You cross rivers and valleys, your feet barely touching the ground. The wind rushes past your ears, and you feel like you’re flying. You pass through small towns and farms, the scenery changing in a blink of an eye.
Finally, you reach the outside of a rather large-looking city. You slow down just enough to navigate the streets, your eyes catching glimpses of people and cars moving in what seems like slow motion to you. You come to the center of the city, where a giant TV screen is playing the news. You stop in front of it, your heart still racing from the exhilaration.
As you stand in the center of the city, the ground begins to tremble beneath your feet once again. The shaking becomes more intense, and you hear a low rumble echoing through the streets. The giant TV screen shows an emergency broadcaster.
“We have just received an update,” the newscaster says. “The Earth’s rotation is slowing down even more rapidly. Scientists are warning of, well, they’re warning of the worst if we can’t find a solution, people.”
The camera cuts to an interview with a scientist, a man with wild hair and glasses, speaking urgently into the microphone.
“The only way to fix this issue is to create a device that can fly around the Earth at incredible speeds,” the scientist explains. “Now, this device would have to generate enough force to counteract the slowdown and get the Earth spinning again. But we’re still a very long way off from having that ready.”
As he speaks, the ground begins to shake below your feet, causing people to scream and run in panic. Buildings start to sway, and the air fills with the sounds of sirens and shouts. You look around and see chaos all around you. People are scared, and some of them need help.
Without a second thought, you spring into action. Your super speed allows you to move quickly and efficiently, darting through the city to help those in need. You rescue a family trapped in their car, lifting them out and carrying them to safety.
Next, you speed over and help an elderly woman who’s fallen over, gently picking her up and guiding her to a safe spot without her even really noticing you. You even assist a team of firefighters in rescuing people from a collapsing building. In mere seconds, you make your way through the entire building, pick up every single one of the people trapped inside, and speed them out to safety.

Each time you help someone, you feel a surge of determination. But the scientist’s words echo in your mind. They need a device that can fly around the Earth at crazy-fast speeds. Maybe there’s a reason that this costume was highlighted today. And maybe there’s a reason that you found the costume tree today in the first place.
You don’t have a device, but you do have super speed. As the tremors continue, you realize that the only decision you can possibly make is to become that device. With your super speed, you might be able to do what the scientists are planning. You might be able to run around the Earth so fast it just might start spinning again.
You take one last look at the chaos around you. Then you turn towards the east, and you begin sprinting out of the city. You take off running, your legs moving faster and faster, until the world around you begins to blur into a haze of colors and shapes. You sprint out of the city, across the countryside, the ground flying beneath your feet. You feel a rush of wind as you push yourself harder and faster, building up speed with each step.
The landscape starts to change rapidly. Fields of green blur into deserts of golden sand. You run across huge plains and through dense forests, and over towering mountains with a single jump. The ground beneath you feels like a solid surface even when you reach the coast and dash across the ocean. Your speed is so great that the water feels like a solid under your feet, each step sending ripples in every direction.
You pass ships and islands, the salty sea breeze mixing with the rush of air around you. Seagulls and dolphins appear as blurs as you speed by them. The sun rises and sets in the sky, marking the passage of time as you continue your run around and around the Earth.
Cities come into view, their lights sparkling like stars. You run through them, past towering skyscrapers and over busy highways. People gasp and point as you zoom by, but you’re going so quickly that they’re not even sure what they’re pointing at. You cross bridges, leap over rivers, and navigate through the winding streets of towns and villages.
Each step feels lighter and more powerful than the last. You can feel the Earth starting to respond to your efforts. Its rotation is gradually picking up a little bit of speed. You can tell the tremors are becoming less frequent and less powerful, and the shaking stops entirely.
You keep running, your legs a blur of motion and your heart pounding with determination. You make lap after lap around the world. The scenery blends together in a whirlwind of colors and shapes. With each lap, you build more speed, pushing yourself to the limit. The Earth spins faster and faster, responding to your superhuman efforts.

Finally, after what feels like an eternity, you find yourself back in the city where you started. You come to a sudden stop in front of the giant TV screen, your chest heaving as you breathe, and your legs trembling from exhaustion. The news anchor’s voice fills the air.
“We have just received word that the Earth’s rotation has been restored,” the anchor announces. “The world has been saved, but we have no idea why.”
Cheers erupt around you. People start celebrating on the streets, but you can barely keep your eyes open. The exhaustion from running around the world so many times at such an incredible speed hits you all at once.
Just as you’re about to collapse, you feel a gentle tug on your suit, as if an invisible force is pulling you. Something tells you that it’s the costume tree calling you back to it. Too tired to move on your own, you feel the suit lifting you gently into the air.
You float back through the city, over the countryside, and into the forest where the costume tree waits. The tree’s branches open up, and you float right inside the tree. Inside, at the center of the room, is a very comfortable-looking bed. You float directly into the bed, and you realize that it’s the most comfortable bed you’ve ever been on.
The suit undoes itself and slips off of your body, hanging itself back up on the branch of the costume tree, its job completely done. You sink into the bed, allowing your heavy eyes to close. And without much effort at all, you begin to sink deeper and deeper into the mattress, and you allow your mind to wander wherever it wants to go, to dreams of new things, new adventures, and new costumes to come.
